Grand Canyon = hole like ass

Road trip along Mother Road - Route 66 is full of unexpected scenery, but it is not reason that we should not visit Grand Canyon National Park, AZ. It is basically "just a big hole", but wonderfully colorful and aged. Grand Canyon is perfectly accessible from the city of Flagstaff, AZ. Early mornings take Mother Road - Route 66 up to Williams, AZ and turn right to Route number 64. 64 will drive you fairly to Grand Canyon. Good-class road is again varietals and full of forests up to "Big Hole". We are talking about a day trip you have to travel cca 80 miles in both directions. Shit on it, Grand Canyon is really unforgettable! Must see it!

A little bit Information about Grand Canyon:

  • Its length is 277 US miles, well 446 km
  • Its width is from 4 to 18 US miles, well from 6,4 to 29 km
  • Deepest point measuring 6 000 feet, well 1,83 km
  • Appraisal age is 1,5 billion years

This time we had good luck according to weather, so it was no too cold, but on the other hand, it was not too hot. Sun was shining, so it was pretty and cool. After peaceful ride you will get Grand Canyon entrance gate. You pay entrance fee there. Do not worry. Nobody wants hundreds of dollars by you. Only US$ 12, but it is fee for whole week. There is no possible to buy one day ticket to visit Grand Canyon National Park. This is due to its area. You can buy annual ticket for 50 "bucks". It is really nice price, because I can imagine spending more time than a day…

You can park anywhere on official parking place around Grand Canyon for free. It is a pleasant surprise… After about 12 US miles full of natural scenery driving, we arrive at the parking place and go have a look at "Big hole" in a place called Mather Point. You can overlook almost complete Grand Canyon, Colorado River included. Colorado River, as scholars say, forms appearance of Grand Canyon up to today. It took a weak 17 million years. It is shit nothing from genealogical point of view. Decent age...

You can just walk to get the Views and no possible to use even bicycle. First of View is near to park place, about 1 km. Then it is up to you wherever you go on, but according to "ass hole" dimension you can nearly always see the same... I don not say there is no to see! Fuck, it is! Personally, I would easily spend a whole week if I had enough time, but I have not! If you have enough time, walk down onto Colorado River to see Grand Canyon from below. Slope failure takes about 4 hours according to Zdenek Jurásek, who did it. It is up to your revered condition... I was not luck, but it must be great!

Argument stated above, according to view, that several miles stand for nothing in Grand Canyon confirm the fact we moved to Pipe Creek Vista, which is 7 US miles out of Mather Point and view was nearly identical! Still super-duper!

If you pass over on marked trails only you can see some American rodents. These creatures are not very shy. So, they are used to somebody, who gives tidbit to them. However, in the park is ban on animal feeding and throwing coins into Grand Canyon, let's say "for good luck". Everything is relative, well what is good for one's might harm to another. This old truth is valid even in this case, mainly it harm to local "Birds". Mainly to Eagles, who consider coins for food and eat it. As a result, Eagles die... So no throwing coins down or feeding!

When planned Mother Road - Route 66 trip I wanted to walk along Skywalk. Finally, I unfortunately could not realize it, because SkyWalk is 100 US miles east of The Rim Trail. I had to choose visiting between Skywalk and Mother Road - Route 66. What do you expect I chose? Right! Mother Road - Route 66, that is way I am in USA! Everything else is secondary! Skywalk surely you know! Exactly it is that oval made of glass at the bottom of Grand Canyon. It was built in 2007 in order to attract reverse side of Grand Canyon, which was not so attended. Government of United States helped Hualapai tribe of livelihoods. No offense, it makes sense! However some limitations are meaningless. Especially those limitations, which warn you, take camera, mobile phone or camcoder on walkway. There is limited time to go through walkway. I suppose it is 30 minutes. After walkway they offer to buy picture made by their fucking camera system for US$ 30. Picture could be taken through internet. It does not seem acceptable, because entrance fee is fairly expensive. We are talking about US$ 43 fee. So even I visit SkyWalk, I would not have any photos in my gallery!

We are hungry, so we stopped at Grand Canyon Village. There is near by center of village airport, where are helicopters to rent. What for? To make Grand Canyon Joy Ride. Flight takes 45 minutes and costs US$ 250. I also wanted to realize it, but... you know… the same dilemma as "walk in the clouds". It is possible to rent a helicopter even in Las Vagas, NV. Actually it is as expensive as in Grand Canyon airport. I partook of some hamburgers, so I was a little bit happier with full stomach.

Long way is waiting for me of returning. Fuck it, "hit or miss" and go ahead to Kingman, AZ!
